I-79 Information

On March 24, 2006 work began on the $93 million project to reconstruct Interstate 79 between Exit 54 (Bridgeville) and Exit 60 (Crafton).  The total length of the project is 5.8 miles.   I-79 will be reconstructed with full depth superpave asphalt pavement and shoulders, lengthened acceleration and deceleration lanes at three interchanges, replaced highway lighting, extended existing intelligent transportation system, install variable message signs and cameras, replaced or rehabilitated 21 bridges, four culverts, and construct two retaining walls, drainage, guide rail, signing, pavement markings, and other miscellaneous construction.   Northbound lanes will be constructed in 2005 and Southbound lanes will be constructed in 2006.  Traffic will travel on the northbound lanes (two lanes will be provided in each direction with concrete glare screen separating north and south traffic.).  Crossovers will be utilized to access southbound exits.  You can sign-up for project updates and view web cameras of the construction at www.penndot11.com.
