ACTA Facts

ACTA is a nonprofit membership organization commonly known as a transportation management association operating in the airport corridor

The Idea for starting ACTA came as one of the recommendations of the transportation subcommittee appointed by the Allegheny County commissioners to study the impact of the proposed new Pgh. International Airport on the region

Founding Members of ACTA include Miles Inc. (now Bayer Corporation), Allegheny County, and the Port Authority.

Incorporated as a not for profit membership corporation in May, 1990.

Members are private businesses and public entities (including townships, City of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County) with interests in the airport corridor .

Mission is to optimize the use of the transportation system in the airport corridor by employing demand management strategies to broaden the spectrum of commuter travel options.

Funding is from membership dues (typically $2 per employee per year) which are matched by PennDOT on a dollar-for-dollar basis.

Current Programs for Member Employers include transportation advocacy at the federal, state, and local levels, Traffic Alert Bulletins, faxed updates on traffic conditions, quarterly membership meetings with a chance to hear experts in the transportation field and network with area businesses and government officials, and a quarterly newsletter, Smart Moves.

Current Programs for Commuters include rideshare matching, a vanpool program that subsidizes the cost of the ride at 50% for the first six months, 25% for the next six months, and a Guaranteed Ride Home (taxi) to any employee who rideshares at least three days a week and whose company is an ACTA member, the AirCor mini-bus service that travels throughout the airport corridor and is available to the general public, a commuter newsletter, Parkway West Commuter, featuring transportation news for commuters, rideshare want ads, and coupons.

Future Plans include working with Port Authority Gold and the Beaver County Transit Authority (BCTA), the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commision (SPC), Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), to implement a transportation plan for the airport corridor, opening a transportation store that provides information on long distance travel (AAA), bus service (Port Authority Gold, BCTA) and ridesharing (ACTA). Providing a comprehensive set of alternatives to single occupant vehicle traffic for airport area commuters.
