History of ACTA

The Airport Corridor Transportation Association was incorporated as a non-profit membership organization in May 1990. Miles, Inc. (now Bayer Corporation), Allegheny County, and the Port Authority of Allegheny County were the founding members of the association.

From the onset, ACTA has worked to alleviate traffic congestion and improve air quality in Pittsburgh's western suburbs by increasing travel options for commuters. Its inaugural programs such as rideshare matching, van pooling, and Guaranteed Ride Home addressed time-saving and money-saving options for commuting to work.

A community partner, ACTA has always supported and promoted public transit in the airport corridor.  In the mid-1990's, with the Port Authority of Allegheny County, ACTA provided a percentage of the financial support needed for the first circulating shuttle buses in the airport corridor. The new mini buses made it possible for commuters in the airport corridor to take the bus to work for the first time ever.  The new system, connecting to the express bus service to downtown Pittsburgh, also provided a much-needed link for the reverse commute from the city of Pittsburgh.

Desiring to provide the best in technology and career guidance and to provide residents transportation services and commuter programs, ACTA opened The Commuter Store and office at Robinson Town Centre. To accomplish the goal of linking jobs and transportation, ACTA shares this space with Allegheny West CareerLink. Together, the partners assist with job searches, commuter plans, and provide help to area businesses with workforce and transportation issues.
